About Datça ...

Datca is in the South West of Turkey, at the tip of the peninsula that divides the Mediterranean from the Aegean Sea. Situated between the well-known holiday centres of Marmaris, Bodrum and the Greek islands of Rhodes and Kos, the Peninsula has retained its own charmingly original characteristics.

The coastline has both high cliffs and shallow sandy beaches, running down to the clearest blue sea. Inland you can find the stunning contrast of dramatic mountain scenery and delightful old villages and farmlands. The peninsula is sparsely populated with small farming communities, and is known for its honey and almonds. The air here is renowned for being some of the purest in the world, with hugely beneficial properties . The peninsula is rich in wild herbs and plants, almonds, olives, figs and citrus fruits, and recent research shows that the ecological conditions on the Datca peninsula have not changed much since the 6th century BC.

It is the farmlands here that produce the olives for which the Datça peninsula is famous. As you wander through the area, sprawling orchards of olive trees cover the hillsides, whilst solitary trees can be found in every garden, and on every spare piece of land. The abundance of olives here means that they often fall to the floor, making a stunning carpet of pale green leaves and variously coloured fruit.

Only 10% of the world's olive oil can be called top quality, and the olive oil that is used for our soap is among the most exceptional. For more information about the quality of our ingredients, please see ‘About our soap’.
